Application Process

Who can apply?
Students with a diverse range of interests, talents, and skills are welcome in the Inter-A Program. Students typically enter Inter-A at the intermediate level, grades 8 and 9. Applications are also accepted for the grad level, grades 10 -12.

Application Process

  1. Student-Led Presentations in Grade 7 classes (Early January)

We visit local elementary schools with an interactive student-focused presentation. Current students talk about a typical day in Inter-A. They speak about our leadership and community service opportunities and explain how our academic courses are organized. Our student ambassadors also share some of the joys and challenges they have experienced over their time in the Inter-A program.

  2. Parent Information Night (Late January/Early February)

A live presentation is held at Queen Elizabeth Secondary School for parents and students interested in admission for the coming September. The presentation describes the Inter-A program and provides details on the application procedure. The last such session was held February 2. A recording of that presentation is often available.

  3. Book a Touring Day - Come see what a day in Inter-A is like!

Arrange for a day visit to the Inter-A program. Have your parent or guardian email us with your legal name, current grade, school, and teacher’s name. You should also include any special information we may need to safely accommodate you, including severe allergies.

During your visit, please bring a notebook and pen, a bag lunch, and a silent reading book. Contact us here.

  4. Question and Answer Session

At the end of your visit, receive the application form, fill it out and book an appointment time for your question-and-answer session. The question-and-answer sessions are held in the early evening. There is a question-and-answer session for parents as well, the same evening.

  5. Apply!

Receive a response from us: we may need more information from you or your teacher(s). You may be offered admission or a spot on the waitlist. We endeavour to inform all applicants by March break of the status of their application to the program. Please confirm your choice as soon as possible.

Teachers, Administrators, and other educational professionals
We are available to make a presentation to local grade 7 classes. The presentation is student-led and describes the program from the youth’s perspective. A question-and-answer period follows the presentation. Presenting students are often frank about the plusses and minuses of the program. A teacher accompanies the group and is able to discuss admission process, academics, community involvement, and other aspects of the Inter-A experience.
