Learn, Lead, and Engage
About Inter-A
As a "school within a school," Inter-A provides an alternative high school experience for approximately 130 students. Our dedicated students and teachers have chosen to embark on a challenging alternative to a traditional education model. Through open classrooms, cooperative learning, and a focus on student leadership and personal responsibility, we foster an environment that encourages growth and exploration.
Integral to our program is a strong emphasis on volunteer work, peer tutoring, diversity, and project-based learning. These elements ensure that our students develop a well-rounded education that extends beyond the classroom.
Located within Queen Elizabeth Secondary School in Surrey, BC, Inter-A offers a vibrant and inclusive community for students seeking a transformative high school experience.
Leadership
The Inter-A program is built on Leadership. Our students embark on a journey of self-discovery, exploring and nurturing their own leadership skills while fostering the growth and empowerment of others.
Students are given opportunities to lead classroom seminars. As students progress, they come to value the privilege of sharing their knowledge with their peers, while also discovering diverse leadership opportunities in sports, culture, academics and the arts.
Within the Inter-A program, leadership becomes a cornerstone of personal and academic development, equipping students with invaluable skills that extend far beyond their high school years.
Engage in Service
to your Community
Students are encouraged to volunteer their time, skills, and enthusiasm to projects within their school and community. Opportunities are provided for community service including tutoring, recreational leadership, groundskeeping, recycling and waste reduction, and participation in neighbourhood beautification. Environmental action, charitable work, and humanitarian projects are other areas in which students positively impact their world.
Academics
Students experience a supportive but challenging academic environment. Our grade 8 and 9 program, high school credits in Humanities, Science, Mathematics, French, Career Education, Arts Exploration, Applied skills and Design, and Active and Healthy Living. Personal Leadership and Responsibility, Cooperative Learning Models, Group Interactions, and Peer support are emphasized throughout the curriculum.
The Inter-A Program prepares students for admission to Post Secondary Institutions in British Columbia and beyond. In preparing students for university admission, we emphasize not only academics but the role of community endeavour, initiative, and leadership in the development of the whole individual.
